Hi everyone, are there any radio experts here?

I've purchased a second hand business radio, the one with the cassette but I'm struggling to get it to work. I have been assured it is in working order.

I did get it to the stage where I can input the code but was struggling to get the code up that you can get when you hold down the M button so I pulled it out and disconnected the battery and left it fully unplugged for 3 hours.

Now when I plug it in it makes a clicking sound ( I suppose that's the casette) and that is it. Nothing comes up in the screen.

If anybody can help me I would really appreciate it.

I have replaced the fuse on the radio, but no luck.

Just to add. I have tested the aftermarket JVC unit in it and bit works perfectly.

Its been a while because I removed the original radio and CD player but if I remember correctly the BMW dealer's had access to the codes.
You need the serial number for the radio, many folks take the entire radio down to let the dealer read the SN#.

The back of the radio should have a plastic extension the fits into a depression in the body section to control the alarm. If it's missing, I don't think the radio will work.

Not sure what you mean by getting a code up when you press the M button? You should have a 4 digit code (originally supplied on a card with the unit). When you first connect the unit to power the word CODE appears next to 4 dashes. You press the station key number 1 to enter the first digit e.g the digit is 7 so you press the 1 key seven times. Repeat for second, third & fourth digits using station keys 2, 3 & 4. finally press the arrow key on the right of the M button. The unit will now be operational.
If you put the code in wrong 3 times then the unit is disabled for one hour Before you can try again. You must leave it connected to power during this time, DO NOT disconnect it, if you do the hour starts again from when you reconnected it.
