Really struggling to get this out. Halfords didn't have the 5 lobe BMW tool and so I've tried every torx, hex, allen key etc etc that I have and still can't move one of the screws.

I'm thinking of attacking it with a drill...but suspect this may make things even worse!

Steve.

Yeah not the easiest. The fixings work by pulling a clamp back to tighten up not sure drilling the head off would resolve i can go and look at my unit if it helps ?

Thanks for that although I've ordered the tool from Amazon and I'll see if that will shift it.

I'm fairly certain I just used a hex key from a 99p set.

But it is bloody frustrating finding the right size and locating it, especially with the middle aged eye sight most of us have.

If I remember when I'm back in Swindon I'll try and identify the correct tool as I have several sets on the shelf.

I have a set of Draper (I think) 5 point security sockets Steve. I will get the details of the packet tomorrow if it helps.

Thanks each. I've ordered a set with the BMW 5 sided tool which should come tomorrow. This may or may not work.....

Yes, I did watch all the vids earlier. That's an earlier radio/cassette though rather than a CD player.

My 2000 car had a radio/cassette player Steve, but I think it may have been an Allen screw fitment. Let us know if the tool you've ordered does the job please.

Tony.

Well chaps, the BMW tools didn't work. I think that there was nothing left in the screw heads to grip on at all. Mr Makita however, was having none of that nonsense and freed the unit within about 2 minutes.....

What are you doing with the old unit. I pile up knackered head units to try and make good ones up.
