broken driver side exterior handle? cannot open from outside

Hi, I just bought a z3 and the drivers door isnt opening from the outside. Can anyone help me with that? anyone know what this piece is supposed to be attached to?

Welcome from frigid Canada! I don't have my manual available at the moment but I'm sure someone will awaken shortly with an answer and solution for you. You should go through the introduction thread and let everyone know a bit about yourself and the car posting pics or they'll hound you until you put some up!! Enjoy the car, if the only problem you have is a broken handle, great but anything else ask away! JIM

ok thanks! i dont have any pictures at the moment. only other thing is the seat bushing issue and rear plastic window is all hazy

Not the best of picture, but I can't see the bit you have in your hand as part of the door lock mechanism itself.

As for the hazy rears screen Meguiars Plast-RX is useful. Before that I've been using Autoglym Super Resin Polish with good effect too!

hmm i think its just the handle problem and not the lock mechanism because it still opens from the inside.

Tony,

To me the part in your hand has snapped of the door handle mechanism.

If you get hold of a new door handle then you should be able to swap over the lock as to keep the same keys.

Yes there are some products out there that should be able to sort the hazing out.

I used PlastiX which I used to cut out damage from a bird dropping that etched the window - excellent results. I also think there is another product made by Grays which also gives excellent results. Try your local car shop and good luck.
