Broken cable?

Hi see attached. I think this cable should be connected to the top of the starter motor.
The bolt that it may connect to seems to have lost its thread but won’t come out (ie it spinning on its self).
many ideas? Need to solve this issue to continue the re-build.

Do you have a picture without the red circles? They block the items underneath.
Looks like there is a large battery cable-sized wire just at the right edge of the right circle.
If that's the case then the other wire could be the solenoid trigger wire (12 volts when the ignition key moved to start) and if that's the case it usually goes to a smaller spade lug type connection, not usually a bolt as in your picture.

Can't see my starter let alone get a picture, but I found this one online.

The key would be to verify that you have 12 volts when the key is in "start" and to make sure the relay clicks when 12 volts applied momentarily to that lug. From the pictures, it looks like the nut and the small terminal are common but I can't swear to it without being there.

The main battery cable is attached on an 8mm stud with a 12/13mm nut.
The solenoid exciter wire is attached onto a 5mm stud by an 8mm nut. Once the starter is off you will be able remove the 8mm nut, replace the 5mm "eye" terminal on the exciter wire and get the starter back onto the car. The (2) starter bolts come from the gearbox side.

Hi Tony im trying to put it back together. I think the cable went to the upper nut pictured, but when removing the old engine broke off whilst trying to in-do said nut. The nut seems to be crossed threaded or at least spinning on itself. and I can’t see any broken/rusted ring type connectors.
Might just stick one on and see if the starter turns over
