I wasn't suggesting you pay for things you don't need.No neither do I. I know Virgin cable is in my street but I don't want to watch films or sport so why should I pay a lot extra for services I don't want or need? I don't need hundreds of Mb/s, just a few more would do me, and it would be quite possible if Openreach would just put fibre cables in the cabinet just round the corner from my house. But that seems to be out of the question.
Virgin do things other than TV packages (broadband, phone, mobile, insurance, banking, gyms, airlines, beauty, etc.)
You can go for the 350mbps service if you think you'll need it, but their broadband STARTS at 50mbps.
What I was suggesting was to buy just their broadband service (no TV channels included at all) - but was pointing out that it's cheaper to request the broadband & phone as a package to save about £10/month, then get £120 cash back to make the total cost of £204 (£17/month) for a year.
Plusnet works out at £288/year (£24/month for 18 months contract) or £336/year (or £28/month for 12 month contract). But you can also get £60 cash back with Plusnet (and other providers).
The speed you get from any provider using a normal BT line will vary depending on how far you are to the cabinet (that's as far as the 'fibre' part goes to).
