Brake light switch

So the roof isn't working on my Z3M. I did a search on here and following the advise I found that the brake lights were not working either pointing to a problem with the brake light pedal switch.

What switch shall I buy from where and before I do so is there anything else that could be causing both problems (fuse 46 is fine).

Thanks for your help. Nigel

Thanks Dino. I have already done that which got me round the issue for washing the car, but driving with no brake lights is a bit dodgy.

Ah yes no brake lights could be an issue....hand signals not allowed anymore?

Any of the switches advertised will do the job eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E36-...811750&hash=item5b4713a702:g:S8oAAOSwXaRZ97wx

Quick video of how to remove the switch fast forward to approx 2.15 to see how to release the locking tabs.

Thank you Brian. Great help. I managed to get it out yesterday and take a look. The video shows it clicking in and out and mine doesn't click at all, so issue probably confirmed. Waiting for the new one to arrive. Fingers crossed

New brake light switch now fitted. Brake lights now work perfectly...unfortunately it hasn't fixed the roof issue!

So fuse good, brake light switch working, what to look at next as far as diagnosing the problem is concerned?

Fixed it! Micro switch on hood.

Perfect. The new toy now works and we can drive it this weekend rather than fiddle with it.

Glad to hear it.
Some tasty looking pipes and backboxes I spot in your avatar pic.

Thank you Dino, probably not as tasty as yours! They are Eissmann 83mm race pipes. I was fortunate enough to buy it from Gwyndaf who has done most of the work to it. A few teething problems but she's good to go now.

Super tasty, Eisenamm not cheap but epic sound from YouTube videos I’ve heard. Will need to pop over and hear it in the flesh!
Enjoy driving it!

Not as loud as I thought it would be. Certainly in no way obnoxious to bimble about in, a nice deep growl. A bit of resonance below 2000 rpm but it's not difficult to stay above that :)
