I know the Z3 doesn’t have a lot of storage and trunk space, so I ordered The Revo-Rack from the Netherlands, it’s a “vacuum cup” attached rack, no drilling and hopefully no chipped paint edges. It reports to carry up to 46 pounds or 25 kgs. I am not affiliated with them, just want to pass on my impressions.
It’s pricy, I paid $317 US plus shipping. The box it arrived in was a little beat up but the rack was fine, aluminum, painted black, and sturdy. It’s attached with “vacuum cups”, just wipe a little water on the boot and pump the actuators. I tugged pretty hard and could not move them. The car rocked back and forth. I think the hinges and latch would break before the vacuum cups did. It comes with a storage bag and 2 straps that I’m not sure I would trust very much. I will also use ratchet straps.
I plan to use it to carry an inflatable paddle board on camping trips. Then I will remove the rack for daily use. It removes simply by pulling up a tab on each cup. It is frighteningly easy to remove, so don’t leave it or anything of value unattended for long. The Z is usually a convertible so we kind of understand that anyway. Another downside is that it looks like it will obscure the third brake light. Other than that it looks pretty good. I will update this after I take it on a 4 hour trip to Vermont in a few weeks. 🙂
