I Have hit my head for the last time!

I want to uprate the gas struts for the boot, does anybody know the correct rating for one that will actually hold the boot up?
OEM is 280N. Is 300N too much?
I have no idea…

Why do they not stay up is it because they are weak or do you now have a spoiler fitted and they wont hold the weight.

Funnily enough tonight I've just added to a thread on M Coupe Forum on rear hatch struts. See below :-

I changed my boot hatch struts about 5 months back, as the OEM items had practically given up the ghost. I purchased my SGS struts from a former owner who had never fitted them to his car, the difference was huge, the old ones would more often than not fail to hold the hatch up. The new ones are brilliant, after opening the hatch and lifting it a few inches it readily lifts to open position and STAYS UP!!!
When removing old struts be careful, I found out the hard way, the first strut I removed must have been the best one and the hatch fell and hit my forehead resulting a black eye. So put a prop in place when removing old struts.

I'm not sure whether they are the same as Dave mentioned above, 320n, I'll look to see if there is anything printed (P/N or rating) on them tomorrow when I clean the car ready for Oulton Park on Saturday.

So I'd definitely go for SGS, have a look on their website and look for struts that match your OEM items.

I fitted stabilus struts to my Coupe (they were OEM to BMW when these were new) - sourced from Autodoc.
And they hold my boot open absolutely fine - AND I have the added weight of a Hamman spoiler fitted.
