are there any devices that can work (without plugging into the hotel router) to ‘boost’ Wi-fi signal in the room itself?

Think typical scenario- place has good Wi-fi next to router but in room it is poor.

I’d like to explore options that don’t involve plugging into the hotel router first.

For Airbnb type stays this is an option but need ‘a non invasive’ gadget.

Wondering if any of our learned tech boffins have come across things before I delve into the wilds of Google search and jargon!

You can get wifi boosters that plug into a wall socket. They are only about £20. I'm not a techie but it solved the problem at home with the upstairs bedrooms.

I’ve got a couple of sets of TP Link ones that made a very small difference in our house (and that was plugged to the router).

I can take them with but don’t think these would work in holiday apartments where I couldn’t go and have it connected to their main router.

I am thinking something that is ‘non interference’ with the hotel router that can pickup what signal there is wirelessly and boost it?

Like an antenna that picks up and boosts?

You can use just plug in extenders i use one at home plugged into the garage to give me wifi in the garden corner for the hot tub £10 from B&M homestores. The only thing with them is they can extend wifi without issue but speed is only as good as the connection speed they see from the original router so in some cases you will great great wifi but little in the speed department.
They are your only option unless you have a hard wired cat5/6 socket then you could powerline and extend from that but unlikley so the latter is the best bet
