Bonnet gas strut fixings

Hi all just noticed that there are 2 location ball joint fixings on my z3 bonnet inner panel one above the one thats being used for the gas strut , just wondered why ?also whats the vacant space in my toolbox adjacent to the 10mm box spanner for ? sorry cant post pic at the moment .thanks

It's to give better under bonnet access for maintenance I believe

Its a small Heyco 10mm socket

Edit sorry just read it as spanner so probably not the part you meant , ,,,, but the picture shows the whole kit

Do not try to close the bonnet with the struts on the service positions, as it will not close, and excessive force will cause the back end of the bonnet to spread.
