1998 BMW Z3m · Convertible · Driven 81,000 miles

1998 BMW Z3M 3.2 ROADSTER near concourse finished in metallic silver with its stunning full black heated leather interior. This example has covered just 81k miles from new with a fully documented service history including a filled ring binder documenting its meticulous maintenance records. Examples like this don't come across often, with this one not seeing a drop of rain throughout its last ownership - garaged in a carcoon, only used in summer. The condition throughout this Z3M is stunning with the most minimal wear throughout. The bodywork is truly stunning. Inside this car is much the same. The Z3M of this generation used BMW's 3.2-litre S50 straight six engine from a BMW M3, putting out 3WK HP to the rear wheels aided with a limited slip diff and a 5 speed gear box. This car puts the power down perfectly through all gears - helped with its Michelin Pilot Sport tyres all round and the awesome soundtrack from its Eisenmann exhaust system. This car has been a complete cherished example owned by enthusiasts all its life.

I would love to own this car, but it would be criminally reckless, as I don't have a garage with a dedicated TV point. :p

Actually, I don't have a garage large enough to accommodate a Z3 (any flavour)… I would have to drop the hood and climb over the door to get out of the car, barely!

Lol similar problem to myself. I’m very surprised to the lack of interest tbh I priced the car very reasonable as I’d like it to be kept in enthusiasts ownership, as it’s been owned by forum members the last 20 years. Any suggestions of marketing Z3m or where I’m going wrong. Any suggestions appreciated.

Its the time of year always slower for convertible till better weather sets in.
You just need to get it out there wherever you can ( obviously stick to what you want for it ) but like you say enthusiast owned and this is what you now need again another enthusiast
Good luck there will be someone out there for your car .
Again as many pictures as you are allowed on wherever you are .
On a z3 people like to see the obvious issues area
So good relatively face on picture drivers seat boltster
End of the sills front and rear
Like i say more good pics the better.
Also wouldn't do any harm to list roughly the sort of work and maintenance you z3m has had
( like my Orinoco has 12 stamps in service book 7 main dealer 5 bmw specialist)
Then a few bits of it's mechanical upkeep ( like tread on the Michelin how old , maybe new brakes etc )
If someone is spending 18k then this is the sort of thing they would like to see certainly what i would like to see .

Hope some of this may help you .
Stephen.

Well, I am not sure I am qualified to say that, but I think the price, considering the car, is pretty keen.

Unfortunately, I think you just have to persevere and wait for the right buyer. I would say some sites like Car&Classic might be an option, but their seller's fees are considerable.

Like I said, in my opinion the price is very good, but I would prefer to have it stored away for winter, which I can't do. Tandem garages like mine are OK, but in no way as good as a double (or triple) garage.

So, @Stevo7682 articulated it very well and I will just chip in a little more...

Wait for better weather, and add some pictures that are larger, showing more features. Posting to the forum will reduce the overall size of the pictures, but if you start with large enough ones, they will show details of the car better.

Cheers folks 👍 yip book all stamped up & ring binder full of receipts. I’ll get some more pics up. As you say you’re restricted to what you can upload on forums. I’ve listed it on marketplace on facebook & can load loads of pictures.

I would suggest it's a particularly tough market place right now. Its switched from a sellers market to a buyers market in 12 months with the inflation. Luxury hobby cars aren't doing so well.

There are various M roadsters for sale at the moment too which won't help matters.

I'm trying to sell mine too, and I've been disappointed by the lack of interest shown by the market. No one's even rung me to ask "What's your lowest price bruv?!"

I’ve had a few silly offers £15k today Bruv pick it up tomorrow! Jog on son. Had a few swaps offers but I’m looking at clearing storage as I’ve too many cars. 👌🤞🏻 the better weather helps but Not many people with a spare £18k for a toy I suppose 😬

A dealer offered me £9k as a trade in against a strongly priced car I was perhaps interested in PX ing against!!
However, I've found that most dealers just don't want to know.

Being an M its only going to appeal to someone who wants an M specifically and has that much cash to blow on a weekend toy, very unlikely that someone looking for a Z3 summer car will decide suddenly they want an M. It will sell but you just have to be patient and wait for that buyer and unfortunately they are far and few between.

No matter what we (enthusiasts) think, with 81k on the clock it's a car to drive and as the mileage increases the value drops. Collectors only want low mileage examples. The value is always what someone is prepared to pay.

I've seen some exchange for 15k but I dare say, not as nice as the car you are offering.

It's amazing what 18k can get you at the moment. Porsche 911s can be had for less.
