Well after a good drive of my son in laws new x5 m50d I have to admit that I no longer feel that these 4x4s are for city boys and am well impressed. At 2.5 tons and 3 programs of drive the sport mode giving this huge beast 0-60 in 5.3 sec with 380bhp plus the ability to corner as well as my Zed albeit with a lot more disconcerting sway. It also has the ability to let you drive with all the assists switched off. Not going any where near to its limit as my Son in law was in the spare seat. Did manage to try and unseat it at a couple of roundabouts but apart from a bit of a lean it just sat nice and firm into, around and exit, well at 70 grand that's just what you'd expect, but then thinking how many Z "M"s could I buy for that amount. He looked a bit unsettled as we aprouched the last roundabout at speed knowing I was about to test the braking ability of this heavyweight, his hand reached out for the dash as I hit the brake peddle and my seat belt was the only thing that stopped me exiting through the windscreen, never driven any thing with brakes that good, the seat belt felt quite harsh as it dug into my shoulder, wow!! Wish I had brakes like this on my Z, this drive has made my day and that's why I just had to tell you all especially as I've allways dismissed these huge lumps of metal in the past, and to top it all its supposed to do 40mpg, still wouldn't swap my Z for one one but must take my hat off to BMW. Poor Son in law had obviously not tested the drakes before this which made him nervous and I felt a little embarrassed afterwards but he does have any driver ins so no worries plus there was no other traffic to be seen. Daughter couldn't believe he let me drive. Wife gave me that look?. Not sure if he'll let me drive it again though......................;)

That's some machine by the sound of it Roy but for 70k it ought to be.
I shudder to think how much new brakes may be for it......now that you've worn them out =)).

You don't want to know how much the 315 tyres on the back are Bozzy, couldn't believe we were on run flats, when in comfort mode it's a real nice ride. Wouldn't mind it as a second car, no that's wrong! Third car. Two for me and one etc.=))

When I bought my Touareg I was tempted by the 5.0 V10 tdi version Roy, but then I woke up and settled for the 2.5, 5 cyl and even that thing had some serious poke. Still rather have my Z though.

Tony he asked me if I thought it was as quick as my Z, I said that he would get away from me in a straight line but might have a job in the twisty bits, still can't believe they've made a huge ugly lump of metal go so well.
