Hi,
I am currently on the look out for a Z3M in Blue, but I have been thrown a curve ball and offered a Z3 3.0 Sport with low-ish miles in blue that looks tempting. The problem for me is that is has the chrome pack on it and I am not a chrome fan. The chrome is factory fitted, ie door handles, rear brake light and the windscreen surround. I can see no issues changing the handles but what about the windscreen surround, can I just take this off or will there be fixing holes, will it damage paintwork pulling it off? Also the rear brake light cover top bit, is this just glued on?

Any pointers on how I de-chrome it from factory fitting if I was to purchase?

Thanks Alan

Hello -The windscreen surround is bonded to the frame with something similar to double sided tape plus it's also got some small screws that go around the frame under the rubber, once removed you could plug the hole and it won't be visible. the other chrome bits are easy enough to remove if you are handy with the spanners, maybe the external door handles are a bit fiddly but easy enough to do.

Aren't there tabs which go under the windscreen?

On the one I checked the tabs I saw were going around the side of the door seals on the A pillar, I didn't go around the entire windscreen though just peeled one side .

The top of the rear brake light will unscrew from the light unit once it's off the bootlid. 3 bolts and a plug to take it off the boot then a couple of torx screws to remove the chrome part. Door handles can be swapped fairly easily but remember to change the lock otherwise the keys won't fit.

Thanks for info, partly persuaded me to go for this specific 3.0 Zed in the end knowing I could remove it. Will be collecting it on Tuesday and will let you know how I get on with de-chroming.

@AlanZ did you ever have any luck removing the chrome pack windscreen surround?

I am looking at doing the same to mine and wondering how easy it was?

Thanks!

I'm looking for a good quality rear light chrome cover, if one become available. Mine got 'polished' a bit too much and the chrome is all scratched...
