I was on the lookout for a car stereo that matched the interior colours of the car and the only ones that I came across that looked okay were either the original BMW CD Radio or the continental radio

Came across one of the original BMW CD Players for not too much money on eBay - around £20 (Some of them do go for silly money)

Unfortunately it didn't come with a code that is required upon first installation or after disconnecting the battery... I did suspect that there would be something wrong with it as it was too cheap to be fully working!

Found a tool online that looks to have been developed in over a decade ago, it did come with some malware but was able to use it on a virtual machine where it worked absolutely flawlessly and gave me the radio code.

Very happy with how it looks in the zed!

Now, if only it had bluetooth, aux and DAB.

@Jjim I was thinking of doing the same, thats why I originally bought it! =))

But don't know now. It's period correct so it looks good in the interior but lacks all the features of a modern system.

I couldn’t go back to OEM stereo. Poor sound, no DAB and no Bluetooth Audio

Yes looks good having OEM, but having aftermarket is a sacrifice I’m willing to make for the features.

Here's the link I used to originally get the decoder, it comes with a few radio decoder tools for various different cars from that era - tools for Ford, Hyundai, Volvo and then also specific to stereo companies like Becker, Blaupunkt and Clarion.

I think the Becker tool may get flagged as a keygen by the anti-virus but that doesn't surprise me as that is what it's effectively doing. (\\Radio Decoder\Becker\Becker.exe)

I've also attached a Zip which contains just the Blaupunkt decoder (without all the above extras - and hopefully malware free) which will probably be the tool that you'll be after anyway.

Here's some useful info if you decide to go with just the tool:

I have the original cassette radio. Are they worth anything as it's just sitting in the cupboard?

Yep. Don’t bin it.

Prices can vary quite widely. But absolute minimum of £30 in my view. More usually £50-£75. And they get put up on eBay for as much £100.

Hi I am after a original radio cassette if your intrested
Yes we can sort something out. Need to check I have the code for it. It came with the car but already had a cd unit fitted. I'll message you when I've had a look so not to hijack the thread.

It's just not the most legitimate way of getting it Dave and there's some bodgery required to get it to work. ;)

I'n going to look closer at both apps, the windows app for the Blaupunkt CD players and the android app for the Phillip cassette deck to try and work out the algorithm it uses to calculate the radio codes and if I can then program an "all in one tool" if you will.

In the meantime if you do want your code send me your serial number and I'll grab it for you.
