Hello can anyone help please just managed to get the build sheet from BMW for my Z3 2.0 1999 ! Having a look through and find it was fitted with a alarm at the factory! I have owned the car for 18months and never had the alarm go off or no lights flash on locking with the remote!! I wonder what is the position of the alarm and siren please !!
Thank you

The alarm itself is under the dash behind the glovebox.

Not sure if it uses a siren or just beeps the horn.

I have a 2.0L Z3. Being a facelift Z3, it's a little different to the pre-facelift Z3's.
  • The alarm functions are part of the General module 4 or ZKE4. It is the multi plug module in the rack behind the glove box.
  • There should be a red LED/light at the back of the center console. This flashed once every second for a few seconds when the doors are locked with the remote and the alarm system is all good. The indicator lights should flash once. If the alarm system is not right/door open etc, the LED flashes twice a second for a few seconds.
  • Alarm is only enabled when you use the remote to lock the car. Using the key in the door does not enable the alarm.
  • Siren is located under the fuse box in the engine bay.
  • If you have a scanner with BMW software like INPA, then you can see if there are any trouble codes in the ZKE4 and if the alarm is enabled or not.
