BM multi-system Scanner C310+

Only used a couple of times.

It has a standard OBD2 lead but not the adaptor to plug under the bonnet - it does work with the adaptor if you get one

Apologies do you mean this plugs into the drivers side footwell port ?
Are there any disadvantages to only having access through that port ?

Gordon the obd plug under steering column only gives limited access.
You need a 16pin to 20 pin obd adapter plenty on ebay £7 or so allow to plug into the obd port under bonnet for full module access.
The 310+ will also work on all newer bmw and mini models.

Which scanner would you recomend Stevo...budget is not endless.
