A common problem for our cars as they get older is a failed blower resistor, the symptoms for this is the fan only works on speed 4 (max). The blower resistor comes as two different parts depending upon the specification of your car.

If your car has air conditioning, the blower resistor is located outside the car under the windscreen scuttle panel.
If you car does not have air-conditioing the blower resistor is located within the cabin behind the panel on the right hand side of the passenger footwell. (RHD Cars)

You can see below that the resistor part for Air-con and non Air-con are different.

Blower Heater Resistor Non Air-con - 64111375754 - Part 3

Blower Heater Resister Air-con - 64116912633 - Part 4

To get to the resistor on the cars with air-con you will need to do the following: -

1. Raise the bonnet
2. Remove the 2 plastic caps on the wiper blade nuts, these just prise off.
3. Remove the wiper blade nuts and wiper blade arms.
4. Release all 8 cover fixings just under the windscreen.
5. Remove the sealing strip along the far side of the cover strip.
6. Lift off the plastic scuttle cover strip.
7. Undo the two retaining straps around the fan shroud.
8. Remove the top fan shroud cover.
9. The resistor pulls upward from the centre of the fan in an arc, the wires and connector for the resistor are captive as part of the fan unit.
10. Install new unit and put back together.

Just clocked this, thanks Brian. Had mine replaced due to said problem and after many times of bleeding I now have hot air. It's not bang on though as it's only hot on max, if I turn it down to say 3/4 It's only tepid, what could this be please?

Thanks.

.. this is to fix problems with the speed of the heater blower in the cabin, not the temperature, if your temperature control is not right that may be a problem with the cable on the back of the dial where it meets the levers.

There is a thread on here somewhere about it..

Great article. My driver's side wiper wouldn't release, even after penetrating oil and moderate tapping on the loosened nut with some gentle leverage applied. I turned on the wiper switch just long enough to get the wiper vertical. The plastic panel is flexible enough that I could still get at the shroud, pop it off, and remove and replace the resistor (with pliers). DONE! Thank you so much for the confidence and knowledge to tackle the job. Now I feel like a genius!

Great help - thanks.

I wasn't able to pull the resistor pack using my fingers, but a pair of pliers did the job.

An easy job once you realise it forms part of the shroud.
