We had an absolutely great day, Barry, thanks for arranging.
What a treat, the speed, the roar of the engines and the excitement of the finish with a Mercedes SL coming a well deserved first! Visiting the Rowe BMW team in the garages on the pit lane was really fascinating, seeing their M6 which was due, later in the day, to compete in the Blancpain 3 hour endurance race, finally finishing fourth, we didn't actually count them, but there must have been well over 30 cars taking part!!! There was an awe inspiring end to the race as the safety car led until 25 minutes to the finish time, then all hell was let loose as they all battled for a place, the Mercedes SL just couldn't overtake the M6 no matter how hard he tried.
The Bentleys and the Mercedes SLs sounded epic as they thundered past, you might have been forgiven if you closed your eyes when an SL drove past, that the car was on a lazy Sunday afternoon cruise, compared to the Ferraris screaming round every corner. It was disappointing that the top six cars were all German or Italian, whereas the fastest Bentley came in seventh and the Aston Martins didn't figure at all, but then neither did the Nissan GTR, both of which I though would be more competitive before the race started.
Pictures to follow tomorrow night.
