bit of a ridiculous question

Hope everyone is doing well today!

I have a bit of an embarrassing or well... ridiculous question. I took my door panels off to install something and when I put them back on I can't seem to clip in the door handle trim piece.

The parts I installed had nothing to do with thickening or clipping these pieces in any way shape or form. I just can't for the life of me put the two side trim pieces back in. they get caught on the leather.

I know I have to slide them into place and they clip in. I just can't get them to clip all the way in and so they always slide back out over time. Is there a trick to installing them? I have tried pressing them to the point where I had someone holding the other side of the door and then trying to slide them in. I'm not trying to force them over the grooves or anything just trying to slide them into place like I'm supposed to. they just aren't going.

Thoughts?

Here is an image of the trim piece.

The foam insulation can sometimes fowl the area where it clips in? You may also need to push in as you slide it! if that makes sense?

would it be bad if i just cut small holes around where each clip is in the insulation to make it easier? im about to install a new vapor barrier and dynamat onto both doors. so its easy to cut right now.

As Paul said they push and slide at the same time, they can be a bit of a pain though.

If the plastic inner surround is clear of the foam insulation and the interior door trim isn't distorted in anyway the outer cover/clip should slide in. You do need to press in as you slide, if this isn't working can only assume the clip or inner housing is broken or the door trim distorted?

I agree they are very difficult to fit. I have managed mine by a lot of pushing in and shoving forward coupled with the best swear words I could think of. Once they were partly located I got a thin piece of wood and knocked it forward with a hammer on the other end of the wood. They haven't fallen off.....yet.

On the reverse of the surround are all pins intact?
