We all know that bird mess has the potential to damage paint, and that you should clean it off as soon as possible. I just had the devils own job clearing the largest single patch of birds mess off the boot lid of my Z3.

No idea how long it was on there, certainly no more that 24 hours as I used the car yesterday, but it's damaged the lacquer :( The patch is about 6 inches, not easy to see on the picture but where the image is blurred is the lack of reflection on the paintwork :arghh:

So, gentle reminder to all... Clean it off as soon as you see it!

I am not taking the proverbial here, but that does not happen with my silver paint work.
Sometimes I have not had a chance to remove the stuff, we have seagulls nesting on the roof at work, and it has been on the car all day out in the sun and if I forget to remove it before going home, I do it the next morning.....strange is all I can say.

I have no idea what would have dropped it. i'm guessing from the size it's geese or possibly a swan. I live near the Kennet & Avon canal now. both are pretty common over head here.

I am thinking it could just be different types of paint/finish maybe?

When my car was transported from Queensland there was bird mess on the new back window. It is ruined now :( as no one cleaned it off for about 4 days. I used some Plastix stuff and it greatly improved it, but alas, I am still disappointed.

I have a small 'matt' patch on the roof of my blue 318i which has been there a good while now. I attribute this to 'bird faeces' (politically correct) with the lime eating into the lacquer. Having tried all the abrasive polishes etc I have not been able to remove this blemish. Anyone have any magic formulas for reinstating the shine? My Z3 although having received a few 'hits' does not respond to airborne assaults from birds unknown.
