We are off to London for the weekend to see our son and his girlfriend so will have another explore of our Capital.
I'm sure the pavements are harder there but will be good to see their flat. Just got to steer SWMBO around the tube system without going too far out of our way.

I've been working in London for the last 3 weeks and was in central London yesterday (Oxford Street)

The place is absolutely heaving with people.

I'm there for another 2 weeks.

It's a great place for a tourist but it's even better to get home

Great to visit but wouldn't like to live there. It was bad enough when I used to have to work there for a week.

Only been there once in my life, back in 1994 or 5 from college at Brackenhurst, Southwell Notts. to the Smithfield show. Honestly don't care if I never go back. Don't even like Lincoln anymore. I'd rather be out in the sticks any day.

Tony.

Some great attractions there - some are even named after me! London is great as a tourist, except for all the other tourists getting in the way all the time...

Not my favourite part of the country as it was part of my area when I was field based so generally consisted of sitting in traffic & getting nowhere fast.

That's the bit that would scramble my brain Gaz, it does going into Lincoln at the weekend during the late morning till teatime, traffic lights every 3-400 yards, queues at every junction, and don't mention the train tracks which cross the High St. and close the main road through town for 40 mins of every hour and also intersect every main road in and out of the City. Late evening and early morning it's a whole different place.

Mike, that's a bit grander (is that a word?) than where I used to have to go:

Yes, Tony, Mike & I think, the less people the better!!

Hope you and Sheila have a good time with your son and his partner, Brian, but I think it will be good to get home!!

I realise there are people who like big towns and cities mate but they're not for me. It's a good job some are at home there or the countryside would be packed.:)

I drove a 32 ton HGV in and out of London every day for Ten years and didn't mind it until I had a run in with the City Police, refused to go back in there and haven't driven in or out since, only time I go in is when I get my arm twisted by the wife and then it's by train, hate the hustle and bustle, can't stand the underground. Love the fact that it's so popular with the rest of the world, but give me the sticks any day. Brought up in a village of 2000 residents in the 50-60s, now it's 9-10,000 and mostly owned by wealthy business people who commute into London, will never be able to buy in my village and am forced to live mile and a half away, could say London is partly to blame. City life ?? No thank you.:hungover: Bitter, Me? Naaaa.

Nice to get that off my chest.:happy::happy:

Know what you mean, we visited my brother in law in December for a weekend and that was enough for me, pace of life too hectic, was glad to get back home to Wales.

The big A is a great place to visit especially if you indulge in things forbidden elsewhere but wouldn't live there. You'd love it here Tony. 5 min north you are in the forest and about 300m out my back door you're on the channel that brings you to the Wpg River which you can see from my kitchen window to some of the best fishing in NA.
