I just cannot bring myself to toss the factory head unit as it fits the look so well. In fact I am trying to buy a spare if anyone had. Business RDS Philips Ph7850.

Question really is the tweeters in the door cards. I don't have HK just footwell, door tweeters and behind the seat speakers. Most are no problem to replace but does anyone have a good suggestion for the tweeters in the doors. Am happy to spend within reason . Getting near to the end of this project and keeping the z till I am no more.

I'm curious also as I'm planning to upgrade my sound system. The Harman Kardon is one of my options.

Ok so today I had a set of kicker KST 20 tweeters fitted. Sounds much better. Although the stock head unit is no work of art adding modern speakers renders it perfectly acceptable. I have done the tweeters and the kick panel speakers so it's already much better. Next are the ones behind the seats.

I have just finished changing mine. as the door tweeters were knackered. I didn't spent much at all;
The footwell speakers just swap in. I had a bit more hassle on mine though as the UK car as an amp bolted to the passenger speaker which I wasn't expecting! :) but other that that, not issue.
and the little twitters fit in the slots in the door you will have.
I'm sure you can spent a lot more, but it's made a big difference in my Z and for minimal £, which obviously makes even more satisfying an upgrade! :)

Edit:
I put these in the back too, but I had to cut bigger holes to make them fit;
If you are keeping original head unit for authentic look, maybe that's an upgrade you don't want to do do though.

So did you put the st130s in the footwells?

The new tweeters put put in made a huuuuge difference. Once I get the 4 inch speaks behind the seats done then then stock head unit will be more than adequate for me I think. I also have the pathetic amp in the footwell. I actually got a shock when switching from my Bluetooth cig lighter transmitter to CD because it became so loud. I think one of my tweeters has been NBG from new as it has never been free of distortion as it is at volume now.

ST130 in footwell, with accompanying tweeters in door.
ST130c behind seats.

My pre-facelift didn't even have 4" in back, they are only 3" or something. But you can just squeeze ST130's in. You only need to cut the lower panel where the original hole is, but when you put the grill on, it's just covers the top too.

Before and after.

you can just see the tweeter.

My grills were crap all water damaged blemished. So took the opportunity to clear them and respray them matt black. Not got a before pic, but a huge improvement.
