Hi everyone

any advice which is the best way to get the engine out? 6cyl

out the bottom, top or take the front off ?

cheers

I've never done it but it seems to me that you would go from the top and forward, that is remove the hood and the radiator assembly and using a cherry picker you loosen her up and lift it out. :)

Remove the front of the car, ie, hood (bonnet in UK), front bumper, front body panel, radiator, then use an hydraulic engine crane / hydraulic floor crane

Pretty much what Jack said above, but if you want some pictures have a look through the first posts on this thread...

I have pulled mine a couple of times. Radiator and fan removed plus I also had the intake off and that's it. If you loosen the wiring that goes across the back of the engine a 2.8 comes out.

Because I have a turbo on mine the exhaust manifold stays on also making it pretty easy.

Its pretty quick to drop them out the bottom if you have a 2 post ramp. I've removed a few that way and it gets the job done.

The z3 will be a luxury being able to remove the front. Making hoist Work much easier. My experience with m5# engines and a hoists is you're best to do it with the gear box attached as lining things up after can be a struggle.

When I took the m52 out the e30 for the s50. Tight but she goes.

hi just looked through your photos, very helpful.

But how did you get the gear stick out? Do you need someone to push it down and through from the cab as the engine is lifted out? Just spent an afternoon trying to undo the little clip that holds the pin on the top of the upper rod 😩🤯🤪 no chance the tunnels too tight.
Sorry to jump thread.
cheers
