The Bosch one would be fine Lee, but still too expensive to be honest mate. Halfords are rip-off merchants, where are you located? Do you have a Euro Car Parts or Andrew Page or GSF branch locally?

There is a car parts place in bolsover near me I'll go there and ask for a price on the Bosch thanks tony
If their price isn't great PM me Lee and I'll see what I can get one for. We could always sort out a mid point meet if I can get you a good price through work.

Tony.

Get a Battery from BMW, will fit, will last, not expensive but not cheap either. But at least you can depend on it!

Just go to http://www.eurocarparts.com/car-battery or similar especially if a sale is on. Bosch batteries are ~£70 delivered with a decent guarantee period. I bought an Exide from them for £77. You can go budget but would recommend you go better - the cost difference is not great.

I would normally just disagree with getting one from BMW but have to say the OEM battery in my car seemed to have been in there for years. I only changed it as the battery had been run down a couple of times (lights left in) and I decided to just get a fresh one in there as I had added an amplifier for the speakers.
I've kept it as a spare and it is now doing duty in a Honda CRV and going fine.

On the other hand obviously BMW do not make batteries so you are paying an inflated price for their branding - it does look nice but as the battery is well hidden not such an advantage!

I too have had battery problems this week. After charging it up it soon went flat again, real flat, nothing there at all. I managed to get some more charge in it to get me to my garage friend, but on the way the Rev counter, temperature gauge and petrol gauge would not work. It was a Halfords battery which has been on the car for almost 6 years that I know of.

Anyway I ended up getting a Bosch S5 008 battery. The non working instruments worked again after my garage said when you get home take the earth lead off for a while then reconnect and it should re-set itself, which it did.

Bosch is the best or Varta if you can find them, go for one with the best cold cranking amps, this will give it staying power, but be careful when turning over may flip it on its roof:

Bosch Battery (S5 Battery 100 (74Ah)

Varta Silver Dynamic AGM 570 901 076

I think there must be something in it, I noticed before that the original car battery's last a long time, as soon as you replace it with a after market one you get to do it again and again. Go back to OEM ones and they just last.

Don't know whether you are sorted yet Lee but I see Carparts4less are doing good deals on batteries ATM.

I'm looking a new battery and see Euro Car Parts have a 33% discount offer on ATM - does anyone know if a Bosch S5 Battery will fit neatly into the battery well of a Z3?

If you scroll down on the ECP page they show battery dimensions - the 175mm height fits easily - the 190mm height just about makes it.
I fitted an Exide 096 for better CCA - the dimensions are 278(l)x175(w)x190(h) and the carpet flap sits on terminal tops - not a problem unless you have OCD ;)

Edit - My Zed is prefacelift .

BMW last very well (my MC has had two only in its 16 year life) or I use RAC with 5 year warranty for other cars.

Just measured the dimensions of the existing one and all is fine. The existing one is BMW - stating original battery on the side.
