Although this is a BMW site I couldn't believe the amount I saved today when purchasing some new driver's side seat covers for my wife's Golf 2 litre TDI GT. It has rather nice Alcantra/cloth upholstery, unfortunately the bolsters on the drivers seat had worn through and I decide to see about replacement covers. Went to my local VW dealer and asked for a price, now wait for it - Seat base cover - £904 & Seat back cover - £905 and then there would be fitting. Gulp!!! No wonder the spares guy said are you sitting down. 
Straight on eBay yesterday and my wife found a place at Bedlington in Northumberland - vagwheelsandparts - they had both covers available.
Wait for it!! Base cover - £60 and back cover £62. Gave the guy a ring and said could I pop up to have a look, no problem, only an hour away through through the Tyne Tunnel. Met the owner Kevin - the covers he showed me were brand new. He gets all his spares from Germany, they come from random cars pulled off the production line and everything on them is recycled.
I could not recommend him enough if anyone is after spares for their other car if its a VW.
Just organised with upholstery workshop locally to do the change over in a weeks time.
