A Spitfire which crashed on a test flight from Biggin Hill will fly again after its hero pilot performed 'a textbook landing'.

Pilot Dan Griffiths lost all power seconds after he took off from the runway and managed to glide the aircraft down without causing a catastrophic amount of damage.

The former RAF pilot suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to hospital, but he is also expected to make a full recovery.

MK912 (pictured before the crash) is one of just 31 functioning Supermarine Spitfires left in the UK, nine of which belong to the Heritage Hangar in Biggin Hill

A Russian helicopter crashed during an air show, killing one member of the crew and injuring another.
The Mi-28 helicopter gunship was part of a flight of helicopters performing aerobatics at the Dubrovichi firing range in Ryazan region, about 105miles south-east of Moscow.
The surviving crew member managed to eject before the crash and is in a stable condition,

How the hell do you "eject" from a chopper?

The aircraft, Gnat 2, was piloted by Kevin Whyman, 35, who was a former RAF fast jet pilot and was married with a young daughter.

The Gnat Display Team aircraft (file picture of a Gnat) is a former Red Arrows plane, according to the group's website.
Just before the stunt plane crashed, it was seen taking part in a display with a second red plane.

Something that has been looked at for years but in the to difficult tray. Side ejections and even vertical post ejection of the rotors. Very complex though. Shouldn't really be a problem with auto rotation, however ........

Bit risky though if your flying low I'd have thought?
Downwards ejections were discounted for that reason. You'd be a boil in the bag soup in less than a second (if to low) with no time to separate from your ejection seat and the drogue chute would not have time to deploy the main chute.
