Hi there on my z3 3.0 (m54) auxiliary fan in front of the aircon appears to be either seized or broken.

Is this fan a universal part across all m54 engines or specific to my z3?

Also anyone know any guides on replacing?

Its controlled by the radiator fan switch and also works with the AC. Possibly universal but not sure and usually don't fail or at least very often but Z3's are getting up there in years. I would find the wiring diagram and test it and the circuit that controls it first.

So the fan appears to be seized so thats to be replaced

Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket fans or even other m54 engine fans that will work here?

Anyone know if the fan from a 330 would work as its the same engine?

According to Realoem it only lists the fan to fit just Z3 models, part no 64542228432. Rather expensive from the dealer.

Also x3 auxiliary fans, the units do look the same, maybe even to the point of swapping the fan in the shroud.

Or maybe getting an aftermarket fan that fits the shroud?.

Other than the physical size (that it fits), it is important that a replacement fan is the same wattage and speed as the original. Also that the pitch on the blades are the same, as this is what determines the amount of air it moves more than anything.

So I would not guess that a physically similar fan is going to do the same job. Chances are that a fan from any 3 litre M54 engine will be the same, but it is worth checking. If you have an underpowered, or overpowered, fan it will not cool your A/C efficiently (or possible enough).

An underpowered fan, when used as the auxilliary radiator cooling fan, will run for longer and potentially not last long, or not cool the radiator enough.
