If you want to cruise or potter, a manual 2.8 will happily plod along in 4th gear at 30 mph, but will also show interest when you push on the go pedal. Above 40 mph will start to pull keenly. Or snick it into third and pretty soon you really are motoring.
Have you thought about trying a manual 2.8?

I have a 2.2i sport auto with sports/manual mode and I love it. I find the kickdown really responsive.
If you are not too far from the Swindon area you are welcome to try it out for yourself.

Thanks, oh yeah primarily i want a manual m54 but ok with an auto if 2.8 is what i am thinking.

Thanks. I live just outside of Bridlington Yorkshire so a fair way, but ya never know.

Had a look at a couple over the weekend. As a rule of thumb I always go for age over high mileage and, given what i have read re the m52 and the m54 motors, would you guys agree?

Just some info the M54 engine have the later gearbox which is steptronic. I'm not sure about the last of the 2.8s.
The steptronic can be manually change gear.
