The drive select indicator on my `98 1.9 has developed a fault. Drive select works Ok but indicator is not moving from P position.
Have lifted the plate and the slider works Ok and indicates positions but the connection to the actual handle shutters has failed - presume this is a pin or plastic lug connection.
I am trying to find part number - probably under my nose in realoem but I can't see it.
This is the underside view

There are a couple of part numbers that I can see on the gear selector assembly, first the gear selector cover itself and then (i am guessing) a sport mode switch?

I had a look on coopers and the price of the gear selector cover and is showing at c£35.00 so I think it could be the part you are looking for.

Thanks again Brian - the part at the bottom is the sport/economy/manual selector switch and looks like a disconnect and push out.
It may be a rare moment of BMW generosity giving you the rest for a mere £35 ;)

I'll put an enquiry in through Sopers to try and confirm.
Cheers
Colin

Response from Sopers `I spoke to BMW Technical on this, and they confirmed that the drive select indicator comes as part of the surround trim, part number 51.16.8.397.822.
This part would have to come from Germany so would take about a week to get to me. The price is £31.97 inc VAT and forum-member discount.'

Order placed - Great service from them yet again. :scorecard:

Brilliant new Colin, you can now take the other one apart to find out what has failed :)

Can't wait ;)but may find I could have fixed it with a blob of superglue! :banghead:
Will share findings for possible future benefit to other auto men!
