Autoglym... or Meguiars?

As a kid I'd use turtle wax and then I found Autoglym... I have been addicted to it since - Super resin polish followed by extra gloss protection... I couldn't imagine anything better!

Anyway, since having a black car I varied from my normal and tried Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine - specially for darker colours and i was impressed... till a couple of weeks later when white swirls appeared.. they weren't there when I'd buffed it... And I'm hard working - I don't neglect my buffing! I had to buff it again - but was a bit disappointed and it got me thinking...

So I decided to try Meguiars... Starting with a clay bar kit which was just out of curiosity (but was amazing) and then I went for ultimate liquid wax... The results are brilliant. Its now a few weeks later and I am still impressed. I think I might be swinging in an alternative direction... Got me wondering if anyone else has tried this and if so what do you think?

Special mention to @andyglym - I feel a bit bad even trying anything other than Autoglym after all these years!

Not tried it TBF mate, plenty of great options out there. I generally go SRP followed by UHD Wax, occasionally EGP. I have used the Uktra Deep shine and it came up great. Like you, I've been using AG for over 30 years but do recognise that its just one of many great products on the market.

For a black car you need Poor Boys Black Hole Show Glaze, followed by Natty's Paste Carnuba Special Edition Black Wax for dark cars. The glaze will minimise the swirls without adding fillers and give a wet look finish. I put a thread on here somewhere about it.

I'm almost identical, grew up with turtle wax and graduated to autoglym. I have switched to Meguiars and find it easier to apply and obtain a nice finish. I found autoglym the conditions had to be perfect for a good result - if the car wasnt bone dry or if it was slightly sunny (so the polish dries too quickly) then the results werent as good. But accepted I'm nowhere near Andy's or Nodzed's abilities.

Just the shampoo/conditioner followed by the standard polish, and it now gets claybar'd a couple of times a year (thanks Paul).

One good thing about the Poor boys, it can be used in direct sunlight on a hot car and it has no adverse effect, also its very easy on / off, just wipes away and no dust.

Always used Autoglym when in the trade, found the off the shelf stuff totally different. Always found the white residue a pain. Switched to Maguires as very easy to use with good results. Now my detailing bag is a mish mash of products. Autoglym still make the best rubber cleaner, Maguires Endurance tyre gel gives best coverage but don't drive the car afterwards for a good few hours, overnight best as it splatters. Maguires ultimate black Poorboy's wheels seal, Auto finesse Quick detailer, Do.do wax, Aerospace 303 for the engine bay and for those exhaust tips Autosol. These are my current preferences although i can't visit a car show without buying something different to try?

Always room for some more products:

Agree, Maguires tyre gel is the best I have found
Poor Boys Wheel sealant also good for the alloys stops the tar and brake dust sticking

I had some Turtle Wax Nanotec tyre dressing it was by far better than the Meguiars that I use now. Sadly you can’t buy it anymore.
I also use Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax. Very easy to use with great finish, just a shame there have been no good reasons to use it much this year.

Tony.
