Audio and phone compatability

Hi everyone, first post for me as I just purvhased my z4 2 days ago :)

Managed a great drive with roof down between showers and really impressed with the car. Unfortunately though I am miffed with the phone connectivity with the car.

I have an e89, 2014, with no idrive - thought this would be fine as who needs sat nav these days when you have a phone right?

But when phone connected via bluetooth only works for phone functionality not music playback. And when I plug into usb port only works for charging.

Does work for audio when plugged into aux but is this the only way to get full audio playing with phone?

Ideally of course full bluetooth would be great. When I check the bmw website it suggests my phone is not compatible (currently samsung galaxy s5, though this is a few years old, a bit knackered and needs replacing asap).

Want to replace my phone and get the best 'tidy looking' set up to work for music and sat nav which can play over car speakers. But don't want to buy a phone that isn't compatible with the wrong features etc.

Looked on this site https://www.bmw.co.uk/bmw-ownership/mobile/bluetooth-interface and this one https://www.bmw.com/content/bmw/marketBMWCOM/bmw_com/en_CC/footer/compatibility-check.html. Both basically say that to get compatability with either bluetooth or usb connections (thus avoiding another wire in the form of aux cable), I essentially have to buy a phone that is at least 3 years old.

Optional equipment codes that may or may not be relevant are:

0654 DAB TUNER
0663 RADIO BMW PROFESSIONAL
0698 ARE-CODE 2
06NH HANDS-FREE FACILITY
EMOA Deletion of MOST adapter

I'd really love it if anyone could share their expertise or experience with this kind of situation!

We have a similar model e89 and as far as I'm aware there isn't any way of playing music over bluetooth without using some kind of additional third party bluetooth module.

as far as I know it only works if you have enhanced bluetooth which I think came out from F-series as an optional extra!

I have just sold a 14 plate X1 and that required a wire connected to my iPhone.
The wire has a USB and 3.5jack plug on one end and iPhone connection on other end. The two connection in
car were low in front of the gears.
In fact I still have the wire as I took it off the car when it went.
I still use iPhone 5 as I find the laters phones too big for my liking.it must be 5 years old now

This disappointed me too - love my 14 plate E89, but it's a bit of a shame to have cables trailing in order to have music (when the BT stereo unit I fitted to my old Z3 could handle it). Good news is... you do get used to it, but I'm very much planning for my next car to have full BT music capabilities! :)

Did anyone ever find a decent solution?
