The ABS/ABS lights are stuck on, on my Z3 1999 2.8L.

This happened before but the lights went off after a couple of days. Then they would occasionally stick on until I let the car rest for a few hours, then they wouldn't come on for a week or 2. Though they are now stuck on permanently.

I've replaced the ABS Speed sensors all the way round. That didn't do anything.
I've also plugged in a code reader which didn't show any fault with the abs or asc system.

Any suggestions on what to check next?

Thanks!

I had a similar (very common) issue with my BMW era Freelander where the traction control / Hill Decent lights would come on when braking and eventually they stayed on.

This was solved by changing the brake light switch on the pedal.

What I didn't realise is that the brake lights weren't working. Some kind soul informed me while stuck in a jam on the M1 on the way back from @spurs fan in a coupe house with a set of roll hoops and trim for the Zed.

If it is the fault you can get it repaired with warranty with Ecu testing or BBA Reman

If the lights are on, there will be an error code in the ABS unit.

Things to check in order to get the error codes:
- Use a scanner that you know can talk to the ABS unit. Many hand held scanners only look at the engine DME and will not access the ABS unit.
- Connect to the car through the round plug under the bonnet/hood. Do not use the port under the steering wheel as this will only give you access to the engine DME.

Once you get the error codes, you can fix the problem without throwing parts at the car in a random way.

Thanks @Cooper . Will have a go at that. Do you think I might be able to solder myself?
Sorry I don't know. I saw your cry for help and started searching around for a solution. This is the closest I got. I hope there is a better solution!

Have you checked if you have a sensor under the carpet in the passenger seat footwell. Known to get damp and throw up random errors.

Both @littlefeller and I had similar problems and there is a write.Sorry hotel wifi not so good and would take ages for me to find. Try searching the forum, it should come up.
We both brought second hand abs modules and replaced the faulty ones. The new modulers have to be recoded to the car using INPA software. Sounds complicated but is very straight forward. There was also a thread about resoldering an existing module if youfamcyabit of DIY or you may be able to get it repaired by ECU. If you are reusing the same unot it should not need recoding.
Sorry not able to supply links at presrnt but it is all on here.
