Are all Z3's the same?

Clearly not but I was thinking specifically from the aspect of the ignition key - mine was manufactured in March 1999 and registered in June 1999

and I have shared a photo of the key. Be keen to learn what everyone else's is like and whether they are all the same.

That's weird, a combination of both types of key/fob. The key is the later type, like my Z3 had and the alarm fob is the older style "Brick" type of alarm fob.

Indeed that is a weird combo - I've seen the brick style remotes before but thought they would only be paired with a key that didn't have the remote functionality

I had the brick type alarm on the Z3 the key just did the central locking. as well as locks and ignition of course.

This is my key from my 1998 zed, button operates a light, no alarm. The alarm is fitted to the car but I don't have the alarm fob

There is also a 2 button Z3 key. As you are getting more and more Jap import Z3's in the UK, these are getting more common. The Japanese market uses an Infra Red Transmission for the remote central locking. This is the key for it. It needs a special synch process that is slightly different to the 3 button RF key.
