Have done a search and posted in an old thread regarding code reading and clearing, good info but seems most like to use a laptop setup or a couple specific readers.
Harbor Freight has a pretty well reviewed reader on sale for less than a mechanic would charge just to read and clear my codes. I have the brake light warning, and as of last fill up, check engine light.
Has anyone here used their reader, and if so, did it work on a BMW?
From reading it appears a round to square adapter to even plug in a reader, but I would like to get a reader that will connect to my Z3 as well as my other vehicles, without spending $200+ for the unit.
Thanks in advance!

Oh, forgot to say that nephew didn't know he had to change sensors when he replaced the brakes, and check engine light came on right after a fill up, which he hadn't done for a long time. Gas cap is wrong one (old flat metal style) and suspect that since Z is running perfect, great mileage, etc., that may be it since my truck did it due to failing vented gas cap. Code reader would confirm problem. Have ordered correct cap.
Regards!

Depends if you just want to clear the codes or get dealer specific codes to diagnose?

You can get cheap wifi and Bluetooth dongle type OBD plugs for as little as a fiver and apps to go on your smart phone to read and clear for similar money.

You can spend a lot more on a dedicated handheld from £20 - £500 plus.. I have both types and they both work equally well for different reasons. The cheap dongle type usually don't support dealer specific codes but they do tell you what's wrong and clear codes.
