I have today received an email from Vodaphone telling me they are changing my contract by removing Turkey from the roam free zone.

This email came through my "promotions" email page NOT the normal primary page as you'd expect.

Vodaphone will be pulling this stunt as this break in contract is going to cost them dearly. I have spoken with them today after discussing options available to me have come out of a 24 month contract costing £51 per month down to £22 per month on a sim only contract. I have been given my 3 month old Galaxy S10+ foc saving me circ of £600 per year. This for me is a lot of money and is even better as Jue was on exactly the same contract so the phone being given and monthly savings are doubled.

So for one phone call from a promotional email we have two 3 month old Galaxy S10+ phones handed to us foc and we are going to save circ of £1200 over the next couple of years aswell. Vodaphone contract users check your promotional email inbox and you may well save a decent chunk of money.

Nice one , more spends for Reggie
Well in theory yes, I am world renowned for not using him enough and that could drop dramatically this year, just had a replacement rear bumper painted so nothing else to do really, he's all good (ish)

Looks like they're pulling back from international interconnect contracts with Turkey Dave. The costs this side will no doubt be as near to cost neutral to them as possible if not to their advantage. You've picked up because you're (or were) frequent visitors to Turkey so that destination is of interest to you. Most won't as they will be more concerned about EU roaming (when we can again). When you do go, Turkey has moved into the £6/day category.

Routing of call and data traffic on networks is a complex business and under daily review (I know quite a few senior Vodafone people as well as the CEO - they won't be making changes like this if it hurts. It is big business with big numbers).

SIM only at £22 is still a fair wedge though. Am paying £10pm for 8GByte of data (based upon O2 infrastructure). That includes roaming to a similar list of countries. I guess they wanted to keep you on some form of contract though. Probably wouldn't just release you without penalty and I bet your phones are locked to Vodafone too which I bet they wouldn't release because of the capital cost of the device itself.
As soon as you contract period is out, move. You can get cheaper. Does your contract start reset to today?

I have Spotify Premium inc which is £10 a month Ian so the rest is only £12

They said I could leave altogether without penalty and I can get the phone unlocked on a phone call if I chose to leave but we've been with them 20 odd years now so better the devil you know I reckon.

Fair enough then. That's a great deal for you

That's probably a good call while you're travelling around - the network coverage will be one of the best as well as having good core network capacity.

That said, I have no such compunction to stay with any service provider or utility even after working for them. You're just a number. Same as insurance - they don't reward people who stay - it isn't part of their service model.

What's Spotify?

And as a rule neither do I Ian but for some reason I've stuck with Vodaphone, don't know why really.

It's a music streaming service Gary. You can get all the new albums and thousands of artists for a £10 a month fee. It's very good if you like your music. One or two artists won't play ball but 99% do.

I have always used Vodafone
Our granddaughter phone is costing £22 per month with unlimited data unlimited text unlimited calls sim deal. We tend to buy our phones — iphones.
I got my first mobile back in 1987 (fixed in a Volvo) and kept the same number until i retired 10 years ago ( they added a 7 at some time ). At that time it was BT (0860) or Vodafone (0836) Very expensive in those days 33p per minute inside M25 otherwise 25 p per minute

I’m with Vodafone, and I’ve just upgraded last week :)
Sim only deal £11 a month :)
Unlimited text , unlimited call and 1GB data and roam free to 51 destinations :)

I've been on SIM only for 11.76 for a few years now 500mgb data unlimited texts and calls (which I hardly use).
Vodafone signal used to be by far the best coverage here but for the past 2 years it has been very poor considering their nearest mast is less than 2 miles away?

Tony.

Should add OH and my iphones are on 5gb data unlimited calls and unlimited texts at £9.00 each. Regarding coverage —— i found it worse after going from analog to digital a few years ago. Although we have 5gb each we rarely exceed 1 gb but granddaughter hits Well in excess of 100 gb
She also has (and needs) use in lots of country’s including USA , runs her computer off the phone at Uni
