Noticed this number and initials on the air intake of my 2012 20i - any thoughts on what it might be?

Doesn't appear to be a date or the associated part number

It is a date 26/6/20

5 years of crud in there.

Breakers reference number before it was broken for parts? Have you bought a ringer??

Thanks both and now you've pointed it out I can't believe I didn't read that as a date - I read the forward slashes as ones. Clearly I'd never make it as a code cracker

Some garages just write the date they serviced the car somewhere in the engine bay. I've had that many times in the past.

Pulled the filter just to check and it didn't look to bad - next service is due in August so I'll get it replaced then anyway

Have you removed the note?

That car has probably had a new air filter every few months for the last 5 years because everyone sees that date, presumes it's 5yrs old and replaces it but doesn't clean off or cross out the note

Tried my best with a liberal application of WD40 but I can't budge it
