All,

I am currently in the process of getting a new knob. Problem is I am not sure how to pull mine off. :(

I have ordered a new black leather one to replace the chrome one I currently have installed (autobox attached) and all I can see from the photo of the one I have ordered is a thin plastic/metal stick. (attached).

Do I give it a good tug and hope for the best or does it need a dismantle of the centre console?

Thanks Alan

Hold the knob firmly, and press in the indenture, then pull upwards and it should come off. I have a 2.8 auto and mine comes off quite easy.

Just drop the hood, put one foot in each footwell and pull.

Failing all the above advice you might find someone has glued it in place. I have had to cut them open in the past with a hack saw.

As attached photo got around today to changing the knob. Took onboard roof down and standing up over the knob with leg each side and placed in neutral. Pressed the indenture as also mentioned above and gave a good tug, with bit of resistance at first it then came off just missing my nose/forehead but I did fall backwards onto the seats and nearly got whiplash on my neck. Did not need to pull so hard in hindsight .

Thanks for the advice as I was envisaging removing centre console but turned out to be a piece of cake with your help

Just pulled mine off today and replaced with a storm weighted knob. It was a bit of a struggle but it gave in eventually. I was determined not to have to resort to damaging the original as it was the original and in good condition.

Perhaps your neighbors thought the car had treated you poorly and you were trying to get even with it. Of course, you could have always told them you were practicing on pulling your kid's tooth..................Frankie
