I've just picked up a very clean set of 16" Style 18s (rounded 5-spoke) for £100. And they have 4 very useable tyres. These are for the project 2.2 which having been acquired with front offside suspension damage had the wheel/tyre knackered on that corner.

Unfortunately the tyres on the Style 18s turned out to be 205/50s. Which I think may be a bit too skinny for a 2.2. So my options are:

1. Just go with 4 205/50s
2. Put 2 of the 225/50s already on the car on the rear. Leaving the 205/50s on the front
3. Put the 3 225/50s on and get hold of a 4th 225/50.

My budget as you may recall is very challenged on this car. So spending £20 on a part-worn tyre and £40 or whatever it is on 4x fitting and balance is not a good option unless necessary.

Ideally I just want to get away with option 1. What do you think?

Wont look right 205 50 sidewalls smaller than the 225 they will look too small in the arches

They are 7Js. Yes I think I'll have about 10mm less wheel arch filled out which won't look so good will it?

Option 3 for me fit 4 225 50 16 then you wont affect anything like handling or ride by running wrong size tyres

Doh! Turns out the other 2 tyres on the new wheels I didn't check for size are 225s. So just got to move across 2 of the tyres from the old rims.

He must have been running 205 front and 225 rear.

I've put the 2 with 225s on the front of the car (in the pouring rain!), they look good and for the first time that corner of the car looks proper again :)

Must update my progress thread as the car is really coming together now. Hopefully will finish off the remaining mechanical work tomorrow if it doesn't rain.

Good luck with the weather mate, looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Tony.
