Hi Tom, I might be talking rubbish as I have a 1.9, but I've heard stories of 2.8s that have been driven hard over a long period of time, putting pressure on some of the welds, especially towards the rear of the car.
I don't know if anyone else can expand on this, or just shut me up.

But anyway, welcome, I hope you find a jolly decent motor and have many happy days with it.

Hi Tom and welcome

mines a '98 2.8 with 143k on the clock, but has service history. Only bought it in November. I'm currently working through the suspension bushes as mentioned above. It did/does feel "loose" when driven so you should feel it when you test drive. The worst on mine being the front wishbone bushes which looked fine but has gone soft causing quite noticeable tramlining. I'd been meaning to check boot welds and the above link to photos reminded me to go out and check them. Two have clearly failed, so sorting them has now been added to the list.

Engine, runs like a watch and pulls strongly, remember, its a big 6 in a small, light chassis, so won't have worked in the same way as if it had been in a 7 series.

The advice is, read the forum and compile a list of things to look at specifically. Decent, long test drive and don't pay over the odds for it.

We expect to see a photo soon!
