Been a while but on Monday afternoon a lady of, grand mother years, dropped in an Audi A5 for M.O.T. This car belongs to a local construction company who have contracts all over the country but mainly in the south of England I believe. Anyway when I tested it look what came to light !. The lady who left the car said " I need to pick the car up by three as I have to pick some children up from school!"

I just can't believe those photos. I wouldn't drive a car with tyres like that let alone risk someone else's life.

Some people do!
They do Mark, because they're ignorant of the fact, and that's the bloody scary part. Ostrich syndrome.

That's step too far but I do understand your point Steve.;) You see, what was VOSA (now the DVSA) can stop and inspect vehicles at the roadside and ban them from the road because they have Police back up with them, we as an extension of the DVSA at a test station cannot, because we don't have Police back up and it's vey likely that if we impounded a persons car, they would be much less than happy about it.

Tony.

ps. When I failed that car, as was inevitable, all I could say was that the car was not fit or SAFE to be driven on the road. And that's all I can do.

What did you advise the Lady to do!!
We know there is no excuse, was it her car or if it belonged to the firm, was the Lady perhaps told to take that car for an MOT when she picked the children up and accepted that it was okay in good faith, if so, not many people would go round and check the tyres before driving off.

I fully understand every think your saying Tony. Its time the law was changed and backed MOT inspectors.

Well, surprise, surprise we didn't have any tyres of that particular size/type in stock, so she went away with her (it's) space saver on the worst tyre side, only they didn't. I would have thought that the one which had cords showing in the centre of the tread was by fat the worst one, but what do I know, I'm only an M.O.T. tester ? But don't forget, this car could well have been in your area in the last few days/weeks with these totally knackered tyres on. Scary though isn't it?
