I've got the airbag light, my scanner is an ac808, the code it gives is 06 06, I've checked the pretensioner with a multimeter, thats okay, I've swapped in a replacement passenger side impact sensor, the battery is at 12.75v and I'm out of ideas - what do I check next?

Undo all the seat electrical connections, both seats, spray with contact cleaner and allow to evaporate then reconnect and reset. It's free and could work

Not aware of the ac808 code reader and its capabilities, a quick google for code 06 06 came up with passenger pre tensioner which you say you have checked. What resistance did it measure out as? Might be worth getting a replacement from one of our resident breakers and plug that in, clear codes and see if it comes back.
I use a Creator 310+ code reader and that comes back with better fault descriptions than just Hex numbers, solved a problem I had with clearing a satellite module code that INPA and BMW Scanner 1.4 couldnt clear, Creator cleared it first go.

Doing that now :D it did occur to me that it might be the drivers side, so whipped the seat out

The resistance on the passenger pre tensioner was 0.6 I think, just checking the drivers side - I don't suppose you know what the resistance of the side impact sensor should be? 65.77 - 6 910 678
The drivers side pretensioner is 0.5
everything looks clean and bright - even checked with a magnifying glass to see inside the female connectors.

just to note the resistance on the drivers side impact sensor is .53 the replacement on the passenger side is .47

I just had a thought - I think I was getting the same fault codes when both the seats were out? does that mean anything? Also if anyone has a decent fault code reader I could borrow at some point (happy to leave a deposit) I would be really grateful

What do people think, should I invest time and money into chasing this airbag fault, or cut my losses and sell as is, as far as I'm aware it's only the airbag light that would stop it passing an mot

Airbag light on my Zed - diagnosed as wiring under passenger seat - part 30 quid - overall cost £175 - going in to BMW this Friday to get sorted.

Another update for my Z3 - I can't remember if I mentioned that the car is stored in m parents garage, about 250 miles from me - so it can be a little time between visits to it - however I sent a new diagnostic tool to my brother and he got the following codes out of the airbag system:

06 Side airbag, front right
81 Sensor for side airbag, left

is the sensor for the left side the one under the carpet under the seat? if so I've already put a secondhand replacement in there, which in my view means either the new sensor was faulty or there's more corrosion in the wiring under there that I've not seen, the carpet has retained a lot of water.
