Another bad day

Today tried to do a front spring on the z3 for mot got the old one off no bother, them putting the new one on used a load of spring compressors, and got the to back on but the bottom rubber has moved and it's not sitting properly. Really don't want to take the top off the shock again so thought I'll put it back on car and limp to garage for them to do it. And couldn't get the locating dowel at the bottom of the shock to go in so couldn't get it to bolt up. So put tools away come in house

When you go back for another attempt to set it right hopefully things will fall into place!

When doing those, have both wheels off the ground otherwise the anti roll bar will make life very difficult.

I’ve done front springs on other cars, but the ones one the Z3 I found quite awkward - the relatively short length of the spring and damper makes it hard to compress it short enough to get everything assembled.
Will be investing in more sophisticated spring compressor before I go anywhere near them again

Update, all done took front shock over to my mate. And he didn't think we was going to do it either due to the short length of the shock and the amount you had to compress the spring to get the cap on. Anyway long story short he managed it and now back in car. Ready to take back to garage tomorrow now for the retest

When I do Z3 front springs I put the lower spring cup into the clamp. Same with E85 Z4 too.
