Spent the afternoon hunting for a rattle........
Finally tracked it down ....at least I hope it is this.....one of the bolts that holds the quarterlight window was not done up.
The one in the hole just above the wiring.

Now to put it all back together and see if it was that.

That certainly fixed one of the rattles, but there is another which seems to be from the dooras well

Hardly hear it when the window is up, but really annoying when the window is down.

There is a rubber insert that fits in the window guide channel at the front but the rear one doesn't have one. Is this right ???? Cant see one on realoem

Glad you sorted it.
I sometimes get a rattle from the near side.
Went for a run around The Peaks on Monday with out the wife
Surprisingly the rattle had gone =))

Coming a bit late in the conversation but did you figure out all the rattle sources from the window? I am having the same issue I think from the passenger door and its not too bad but makes me feel like I am driving in a tin-can....... 😣

I used to get what sound like rattles from the door area‘s, I still get them when the door seals dry out I try to keep them lubricanted with gummyfledge but used to use silicone grease.

Back in day Porsche used to use something akin to Vaseline.

At times we had similar issues with the folding roof on the Eos.

So you are saying there is no point in opening the door and replacing any internal rubber bushings?
Btw when I use silicone grease and lower the windows, they become very slimy after I raise them again :grumpy:

Where are you applying the silicone grease? I only use silicone spray, and direct the spray down the rubber channels which the glass slides in and don't get it on the glass. I can't recall any rubber bushes inside the door on the window regulator.

Sorry I meant Alaska silicone spray, like you said, I spray it carefully on the seals on the top of the door, but when the window goes down, it takes some with it... is it only me? =))

In any case, that doesn't explain the rattle or the play I have on the window passenger door. That is why I was expecting there would be some bushing on the window regulator, but I take your word for it 🙂

The window regulators themselves do have a habit a fracturing welds and cracking through the glass getting tight in the slides which allows metal against metal movement. Also there white plastic rollers which are clipped into their operating horizontal slides, sometimes the clips break and come off. I would get an exploded view of the window regulators and try to see what I'm talking about. If you are putting any kind of grease along the weather strip rubber across the top of the door there is no wonder your window glass is getting "slimy", I wouldn't put any thing on there only down the rubber slides at the rear of the door and at the front from top to bottom at the 1/4 light. It's around 12 years since I had my own Z3 window in bits.
