OMG what a terrible time,it's hard to imagine how stressful it must of been for these poor men and how insanely brave they were. And what a waste of a generation it's easy to forget war is the last resort we have to be pretty confident in our position before we send our sons to die in our name.even now .Thanks for sharing it sent shivers down my spine and made me think.

My FIL was on the crew of a Lancaster for four years and luckily his only injuries were from walking into something on the planes outer and falling off a camel they stole to get back to camp after a night of drinking in town while in Egypt! Didn't talk much about it though and I can't remember what his job was but think it had to do with navigation and sighting bombing spots! JIM

its is surprising how so many would not talk about or really discuss there experiences, after my grandfarther passed away we found that he was one of the few who held the bridge in Arnhem, he spent the rest of the war in a camp after they had completed there task to hold the bridge for 48 hours.

My Dad had what he termed the best job in the service. He was a shoe maker and felt that he had to put his best effort into each repair knowing that the soldier that would wear them depended so much on their boots. He was fortunate in that he wasn't near the battle fronts and thought it was due to his parents being from Austria. That fact bothered him slightly but he did his duty along with his brothers to give us the freedoms we enjoy today!! Hug a Veteran today and thank them for those freedoms as well as celebrating those that died in the war to end all wars!! JIM
