I have a 2011 Z4 30i and everyday next to my gear shift, the Amber light on P always stays lit all the time, even when I park my car.. Even for a day or two if I don't drive, the light always stays on even with the door's locked and everything is turned off it always stays on, is this normal? It's been like this since the day I got it last year, some people tell me it's not supposed to be this way but then some people told me that it is, any idea?

I can only tell you how my 2011 E89 behaves and its not as yours does. Whichever position the gear selector is in the corresponding marker should be lit up orange. That is the whole point of it.
There will be a switch, either on the gear box ,or on the selector lever itself which moves the illumination according to selector location. I would try connecting a code reader (scanner) to the OBD port and see if there is a fault code stored telling you where the problem is.

Tony.

ps. Where are you located?

Hi, I will check mine tomorrow for the exact actions of my car. Where in Florida are you? We have a home there in Kissimmee and heading over in April.

OK, I checked my car and it behaves like this. When I lock the car the P light stays on, from when I parked the car. When I returned to the car after a short while the P light has gone off. When I unlock the car the P light comes back on and from then each light illuminates depending on the position of the selector. Hope this makes sense.

Oh I see, mine's not doing that. The orange indicator light is always staying on, everyday and night, Even if I lock the doors and if I don't drive for one or two days, the light still stays on so I guess something is keeping my car awake, I wonder if a code reader can figure out what it is. Thank you very much for your help I really appreciate it

You're very welcome. I can't guarantee finding the fault but I'm willing to have look see.
