Am I wrong to consider a Z4 instead of a Z3 because I am 6.1ft?

Am I wrong to consider a Z4 instead of a Z3 because I am 6.1ft?

I had my heart set on a Z3 however sat in one for the first time today (2001 2.5i) When the top is up it’s very hard to get in and out of. Once I am in I have about 1 inch headroom which doesn’t bother me that much. However with the top down I have the feeling the top windshield is obstructing my view because I’m sitting so high?

went over to sit in Z4 2003 and all of these issues appear to go away.

I would love some feedback am I overthinking this.? Is this a legitimate reason to not buy a car?

when I walked out of the car and told one of the salesman their response was” you’re not going to get any younger“….. actually appreciated that comment and praised him for it. I’m 60

Entirely down to your comfort at the end of the day, Z3 a bit small for the taller person and the steering being hydraulic feels heavier than the Z4's electric steering. Looks are down to personal taste, I much prefer my Z3 over the Z4 I have, the Z4 has such a slabby look as opposed to the curves of the Z3 downside is the Z3 being a 1.8 1999 is a bit slow compared to the Z4 2.5, 4pots vesus 6pots.

Try an E89 Z4 if funds allow. Best of both in my opinion.

Tony.

I'm 6' 2" and have had Z3s since 1998 without any such issues!
Have never much liked the Z4 and haven't been in one; guess try both and see what suits you best.

Follow your heart . . . you can always change it after a year or two and experience both !

I'm a similar age. I was 6'2" but not so sure any more. I'm (ahem) not as thin as I was in my youth. Shorter but wider anyone else ? Tbh I struggled a bit in an E85, but I'm with Tony on this, try sitting in an E89 for the full comparison . . .

Just drive them and make your choice.
Z3 - best looking.
Z4 E85 - best 'sportscar'.
Z4 E89 - best 'all year round' car.

I'm 6 foot (and very chunky) and have had both, currently have a Z4. The Z3 is and feels smaller but not restrictively so. It has much better steering feel and is much more drivable in an old school analog way. The Z4 electronic steering is not great but that aside the Z4 is leagues above the Z3 in terms of modern comforts and modern car feel.

You need to drive both, you'll fit fine in both. But it's an entirely subjective issue and you need to experience both to know what works for you.
