Alonso allowed to miss Monaco Grand Prix to race in Indy 500.
Surely McLaren wouldn't allow this to happen under normal circumstances?
Will this mean a return for their No.3 driver Jenson Button

All is not well I suspect, however, he will be racing in a McLaren liveried Honda, so good PR perhaps?

Alonso's contract runs out at the end of this season. McLaren want him to re-sign and there is a hope this will help persuade him to do so.

38 years on - McLaren back in Indy
The unexpected development marks McLaren's return to the Indy 500 for the first time in 38 years. They won the race with their own car in 1974 and 1976.

IndyCars is now a 'spec' formula, where all teams use the same car, though the different engine manufacturers are allowed to design their own aerodynamic bodykits.

It looks like it's nailed on for JB for Monaco. Retired and returned within two races!

He is still on contract with McLaren as reserve driver.
Indeed, but I bet he wasn't expecting to be back behind the wheel any time soon.

I would think after the pre season shake downs he was thinking that Alonso will be gone soon.

Tony.

I did not expect it but obviously the team had previous knowledge of Alonso badgering off to the good old US of A.

Look Gaz, just invented another swear word....:D

insider info, Alonso has purchased Stanton court (about 3 miles from broadway, it has a helicopter pad, so it would appear he will remain at Mclarren for the foreseeable maybe.
