It's a bold statement for sure, highly unlikely though in my view. Granted EV's are coming on leaps and bounds but we're a while off the tipping point yet and the infrastructure for EV's needs a massive push, which I'm sure it will get, over the coming years.

When will they face the fact that we do not have the power available if everyone switches to EV, or do they have a master plan, or will it be like diesel where they convince people to switch then announce they are the work of the Devil. Perhaps we will have mastered Hydrogen power by then.

I still think that EV's are a stop-gap until the true future is released.

Statements have to be made but let's be honest we all know they will never deliver - true to form this will be another headline project that the public sector fails spectacularly to deliver.
Now where did I put that Identity Card - oh there it is behind the Smart Meter unit I need to get fitted.

Public charging is driving me insane with my leaf. I dont need to use them as I have a home charger, but im trying to use free chargers so the car costs me absolutely nothing. Every time I go to a free rapid charger theyre either in use but the car is full and has been left, they're out of service and there's no rush for them to be fixed since they don't create revenue, or there's an ICE car parked in the bay so they can be closer to the shop.

There are the exact problems which EV vehicle owners face Davy, inconsiderate ICE vehicle owners, inconsiderate EV owners and don't care attitude of the people who maintain the charging points, because as you say, they don't make money. But the real target is 2050 and you would hope that progress has been made by then.

Oh blimey! We Z car owners are in trouble then! Please correct me if I’m interpreting this incorrectly!

I think the enforced deadline being discussed is less of a concern than how the government will look to impact the cost of driving these cars. There is also the option of having the car converted to electric as no doubt the volume of companies offering this service increases and the process improves. To be honest its not something I could envisage doing - I already own a Tesla so I have the Z3 to remind me what driving is like but if I've learnt anything it's never say never.

Not in trouble at all, Transport Secretary has it wrong - he incorrectly said 2030.
They say they may try and enforce it for 2050, so no need to worry folks ;)

Yeah, sorry Tony,, for some reason I thought it was 2030 in the title as well as the article :sorry:

Just trying to reasure Dawn and others who might be concerned.

TBH as we have classics around now, I wouldnt be surprised if theres still some ICE cars about in 2050, as their ability to last has imporved over the years. However I'm sure by 2050 car ownership will be different to some extent, time will tell.

There's a good chance buisiness could rise for the small independent garage, the big boys may move away from servicing ICE cars over time, or charge more. Plenty of work for ICE mechanics for 50 years yet, or more.
