Hi all I have a 1999 1.9 twin cam, problem I have is this. The car only has one key which can unlock/ lock the car and start it but doesn't activate the alarm or immobiliser. I don't know if the alarm is activated by the key buttons or by a separate brick how can I find out? P.s the key is not the master key so wont work that way without buying a new master.

The immobiliser is a rolling code transponder chip inside the key if your car starts that's OK.
Your zed may or may not have an alarm system ( optional extra) easy way to check have a look in your engine bay passenger side below where the fuse box is look for the alarm siren .
Stephen.

I had a look at the motor earlier and I have an alarm siren under the fuse box so presumably the gubbins behind the glove box will be there.

I have the alarm under the fuse box & it seems to work, but the slot is empty behind the glove box on mine ('98 prefacelift, 1.9 auto)

I havent figured out how to check the VIN to see if it should be anywhere else.
I have looked behind glove box and can see the white plug on the left, but no alarm unit. Nothing under steering wheel either.

You have a good point there, think I will have to take the glove box out and have a proper look. Thanks for the heads up

There are pictures in this article showing position of EWS box. These are from a 98" but I also helped someone program a '99 model and box was in same position.
