is there a way to check if it needs re-gassing? it worked when i bought the car but have just gone to use it and its not blowing cold. fan is working on the front when i switch it on and all fuses are ok
My aircon had the same problem. I got it re-gassed, it worked for a week or so and then went warm again. I think one of my seals needs replacing. I have some dye in the system, and i will take the car back if it stops being cold (check for leaks) You will have to get it gassed to start with and see how it goes. I would advise you to take it to an aircon specialist rather than a standard garage. Mark
Or if you are marginally adept you can buy a kit in Halfords and recharge it yourself for starters. There are also mobile air con specialists that may be cheaper than a garage- I used one for a Volvo I once had and he checked the system out with the dye- it was all tight just needed topping up.
from what i can read it needs to be used.....mine never gets used....as it can loose gas through the seals as you said Mark. if the gas drops to a low level the compressor wont kick in...( so iv read ) iv only tried it a couple of times since i got her so it may just need a re-gas. thanks for the tip Olly...i'll have a look at Halfords
Wayne don't bother with the regas in a can stuff from Halfords you will be wasting your money. To do it properly your system needs evacuating of all the old refridgerent which also removes any moisture left in the pipes and then recharging with the correct grade. As Mark has mentioned they can also inject dye in the system to identify where the leak is coming from if you do have a leak. Google a local mobile AC guy and it will be far better money spent than one of these cans.
contacted my indi Aceman and he has a guy that does the aircon for 45 quid....that'll do edit does the aircon work with the roof down?
I had my old car done at Kwik Fit. It costs £50 with a guaranteed improvement .....or they don't charge. Funny, I drove around and came back and said it didn't seem any different, They didn't charge me, so when I left, I actually switched it on brrrrrrr.... .
Re: aircon belt iv just edited the thread subject ...saves starting a new one has anyone replaced the aircon belt?....is there any "how to's " knocking about? mine is showing signs of cracking
Hi Swamper, I did mine not too long ago, Although not an ///M it is the same principle. BMW TIS instructions below. Fairly simple job but I did have the Rad out whilst replacing the water pump. Replacing A/C compressor drive belt HTH
I wouldnt worry about it Wayne.. My aircon has never worked.. Just drop the hood and get that wind through your helmet.. I mean hair :ar!
